Fatehpur Sikri is an abandoned 16th century village that was designed as the capital of the Mughal Empire. It is a walled city with many architectural treasures. Some historians feel it was abandoned due to a lack of a good water supply. Others say it was because the leader had to spend most of his time far away defending his territory.Today, there is also a more modern town outside the gates.
