Kamakura is one of those towns, like Kyoto, that seems to display a lot of what is special and unique about Japan. There are lots of temples and shrines to explore, some on the beaten path and some that you can hike to, each having its own character. There is a smaller town community feel here, without the incredible bustle of nearby Yokohama and Tokyo. I was lucky to be there during the cherry blossom season.
