The Bisti Badlands are located in a remote area of northwest New Mexico, south of Farmington. They used to be difficult to find, but now the access is well marked. It can be very hot in the summer, but it was the only time I could go. I did not see one other person the entire time I was there - all I could hear was the wind and myself. Though normally dry and parched, there had been a big storm before I got there, making things a bit muddy and the normally dry streams were raging, sometimes overflowing and impossible to cross in places. By the time I left, there was only a trickle of water left in the streams.
