The Merry Cemetery in the village of Sepanta in Maramures, is full of colorful tomb markers, most carved by one man, celebrating a person's profession, a special moment in their life, or how they died. Death in this area is also not always looked upon as a terrible, sad event but sometimes as a happy event with the spirit progressing to a new world or level.
